“THIS IS MY BELOVED SON” - Meditations on the Ministry of Our Lord

We discover that Jesus had an awareness of his Father’s presence from the moment he was

born. Certainly by the time he reached the age of 12, he knew that his destiny involved

the salvation of mankind. “I must be about My Fathers business,” he said to Joseph and

Mary. Jesus had an amazing knowledge of the Old Testament scriptures. Time and again,

he drew the attention of his audience to appropriate passages to underscore a point. As

the Son of God, he was given the Holy Spirit ‘without measure’ to accomplish God’s

purpose, and yet Jesus said he could do nothing of himself, but only what the Father had

shown and taught him. This seems to be a contradiction, but it was not ! It was a

disciplined response to the granting of unique privilege, and as Messiah hung upon the

cross and drew his final breath, he said with a loud voice: “It is finished !” Mission

accomplished ! And three days later His Father raised him gloriously from the dead and

elevated him to the right hand of His throne in heaven. We keenly await the King’s return

to rule this troubled world in righteousness.
